There’s no statistic on how many percent of the player base is cheating, so it’s hard to say. Though I personally doubt it’s as high as 30% but we can never be sure. Valve has been upfront about hackers in the game and has been trying to resolve this issue since the time of the launch of the game. Valve in 2020 launched csgo trusted mode in CS:GO which blocks third-party files from interacting with the game and is enabled by default for all CS:GO players.
How does Trusted mode help fight against cheaters?
Some applications interact with CS:GO by injecting directly into the game process. This method is used by common applications as well as cheats.Trusted mode gives players a way to launch CS:GO and ensure that they do not accidentally run software that injects into the game. While in Trusted mode, software that normally would inject into the CS:GO process is rejected. Because CS:GO has protected itself, any injections that occur are not accidental and therefore subject to a VAC ban.
Would I get banned for injecting into CS:GO if I run in normal (not Trusted) mode?
No. However, over time the Trust Factor system will learn whether certain patterns of software injection are more likely to lead to cheating. So, your Trust Factor may be negatively affected by running CS:GO outside of Trusted mode. Some cheaters will simply run in normal mode and avoid a ban for injecting software into the game. But over time, they will experience significantly reduced Trust because their pattern of software injection will be associated with cheating.
After the initial introduction of the Trusted Mode, players started raising complaints across social media like Reddit and Twitter about the performance issues the update was causing to their games. The problems ranged from random frame skips and losses to sudden FPS drops in general.OBS (Streaming software) posted to Twitter its game capture mode will no longer operate with CS:GO and streamers will be forced to run OBS in Window Capture mode while playing CS:GO in windowed mode. Another problem is that the game doesn’t actually tell you which process is triggering trusted mode, meaning players are finding themselves barred from the game with no idea why.
Valve does allow third-party developers to make software for CS:GO, but they must have all of their DLLs “digitally signed” by Valve in order for CS:GO to function. If the game detects any unverified code, an error message will pop up and ask the player to restart the game in Trusted Mode, at which point the offending code will no longer function.
